ali's Corner. [Hi, Poetry. My Name is Ali, Remember Me?]

My 17-year old body.
Tight muscles from the chill.
Sleepy eyes and bare-knuckles
cold around the steering wheel.

I exhale.
My breath dissipates
in front of me.
Fresh smoke on my tongue.

Just another night here.
This lonesome place
is so uninviting.

The rain pours heavily
onto my weight of a burden.
I pick up my struggles
at my bedside.
and hold onto everything
I've ever known.

My 22-year old body.
Tight muscles from the chill.
Sleepy eyes and bare-knuckles
cold around the steering wheel.

I breathe easily.
My breath dances
in front of me.
Fresh laughter on my tongue.

Oh, another night with You.
This oasis of a place
is so inviting.

The light rain sings me to sleep
I lay down my burdens
at your feet
as You hold me and whisper,
"Oh How You Love Me"
in my ear.
